  • Does my child need a Speech Pathologist?
There are many reasons why a child may need to see a Speech Pathologist. Are you finding your child difficult to understand? Doesn’t talk as much as peers of the same age? Finds it difficult to follow simple instructions? Gets frustrated as they find it difficult to get his/her message across? Stuttering? Is a very fussy eater? Does not like to communicate or play with other children? Needs help learning to read or write? If you, or an educator are concerned about your child’s communication, we recommend that you get your child assessed by a Speech Pathologist as soon as possible.
  • Do I need a referral from a doctor to seek your services?
No, you do not need a doctors referral to see our Speech Pathologists at The Speech Spot. However, you will require a doctor’s referral if you would like to make claim through Medicare.
  • Can I used my Private Health Fund to make a claim?
Private health insurers have different rebates. Please ask your health insurance provider for details regarding your families claim amounts and limits for Speech pathology. Once your payment is paid in FULL to The Speech Spot, you will be provided with a receipt which you may use to make a claim through your insurer.

  • How many therapy sessions will my child need?
The number of sessions each child needs varies greatly based on their age, attention span, the number of goals we need to target, additional needs, how many sessions they attend per week, how much homework in being completed and many other factors. Each child is unique and so we are unable to know how many sessions your child may need to reach their goals.
  • Is there a waitlist to receive services from The Speech Spot?
At the moment, we aim to be able to provide an initial assessment within 1 month of your initial enquiry. Then based on your flexibility with days/times that your child is available, as well as the location that the therapy will take place, we may start sessions right away, or place your child on our short waitlist until a therapy spot is available.
